The Honorary President of the Gun Trade Association, The Rt. Hon. the Earl of Shrewsbury & Talbot DL Chaired the Association's AGM on 14th May and welcomed newly elected Council Members, Peter Martineau of BSA and David Penn of the British Shooting Sports Council to the GTA Council.

Immediately following the formal process of the AGM the Council met to discuss, and progress, some of the current items on the GTA's Agenda; these included work on such diverse matters as: The Association's submission to the current Home Office Consultation on de-activated firearms, the Specification for blank firers in Section 39 of the Violent Crime Reduction Act, the Amendments to the EU Firearms Directive which affect the UK Gun Trade, the continuing pressure from the Scottish National Party to have Firearms legislation devolved from Westminster to Scotland, airgun security issues, Explosives fees and licensing of Stores, Homicides and legally held firearms

Your next GTA Newsletter is currently in production. This edition will contain a profile of the specialist transport services offered to GTA members by TNT. It will include a comprehensive guide to the sending of firearms and ammunition, and will provide all the information you need to make the most of this unique contract. Please keep a look out for your copy, which will be posted early next month.

Next weekend sees the Tackle & Guns Trade Show return to Stoneleigh in Warwickshire. The GTA will be present at the show, on stand B167, and we look forward to meeting as many current and new members as possible.

The GTA Council will hold their final meeting of 2009 on 4th November. If you are considering joining the GTA, now is the perfect time to send in your paperwork. This will ensure that we can process your application in time for the meeting and enables us to provide you with help, guidance and support for the remainder of this year, and beyond.
